About Haitang Eastern Therapies

The Haitang Eastern Therapy Combination Treatment is a unique blend of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) therapies designed to address physical and emotional health by focusing on the root causes of discomfort rather than just symptoms. This treatment combines techniques like tui-na therapeutic massage, cupping, moxibustion, gua sha, and gentle electrical stimulation, each aimed at enhancing circulation, reducing pain, and restoring balance within the body. TCM views the body holistically, aiming to align energy, or ‘qi,’ and improve wellness by targeting the body’s meridians and acupoints. During your session, our TCM Practitioner will first discuss your health history to recommend a personalized combination of these therapies. This approach can be especially beneficial for chronic pain, muscle tension, stress, fatigue, and immune health, and it complements Western medicine while offering an alternative or supportive option. Expect some pressure or mild discomfort during certain therapies, as they’re designed to release deep-seated tension and promote long-term relief and balance.

Yihan Spa is excited to offer this therapeutic combination treatment from its Traditional Chinese Medicine Clinic, Haitang Eastern Therapies. This treatment protocol blends various traditional Chinese medicinal practices and modern techniques, offering a holistic approach to health and wellness.

TUI-NA THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE

Tui-Na Therapeutic massages differ from relaxation massages because you will feel the pain during and after the treatment. Therapeutic massages aim to solve your muscular pain/soreness from its root cause by massaging your acupoints and meridians, which go deeper than a relaxation massage. It is very normal to experience pain after therapeutic massage for different durations of time, depending on the body’s condition and the severity of the issue. Therapeutic massages help to expose your issue within your body, which is why you feel pain afterward.

CUPPING THERAPY

Cupping Therapy, otherwise known as “Fire Cups,” has been used widely across Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe, and Central America throughout history and is still used today. Cupping Therapy utilizes a round-edged glass or plastic cup with a small flame or hand pump to create a vacuum. The circulation of blood, lymph, and qi increases when the vacuum is applied to the body’s surface, creating a cleansing and detoxifying effect within the muscle layers of the body. Cupping Therapy is also one of the fastest and most effective ways to perform myofascial release, freeing trapped nerves and being excellent in acute and chronic conditions.

MOXIBUSTION

Moxibustion therapy has been used for over 2000 years and is commonly used as an adjunctive technique during acupuncture sessions. Moxibustion stimulates circulation through specific acupuncture points or areas that need treatment and induces a smoother flow of blood and Qi. Moxibustion is effective for treating chronic pain, insomnia, stroke, ulcerative colitis, tinnitus, skin disorders, and immune system disorders. Moxibustion is used to treat various problems, including the following: autoimmune disorders, lower blood pressure, reducing blood viscosity and dilating various vessels, detoxing the body, arthritis/rheumatism of muscles and joints, tendonitis, nerve/joint inflammation, repetitive strain injuries, muscular/tissue tension, injuries, and blockage, misaligned/slipped disks, strained/injured ligaments, and tendons.

GAU SHA

During a Gua Sha session, a technician scrapes your skin with short or long strokes to boost blood flow. They use a smooth-edged Gua massage tool and apply massage oil to your skin. The technician then scrapes your skin in a downward motion repeatedly. Gua Sha can reduce inflammation, so it’s often used for conditions that cause chronic pain, like arthritis, fibromyalgia, and muscle and joint pain. It might also help with insomnia, irregular periods, anxiety, fatigue, hot flashes, facial tics, throat clearing, vocal outbursts, chronic liver inflammation, chronic neck pain, and breast engorgement from breastfeeding.

STIM THERAPY

Stim therapy, or electrical stimulation therapy (e-stim), involves using electrical impulses to stimulate muscle contractions. This therapy is commonly used in physical therapy, sports medicine, and pain management to aid recovery, improve muscle function, and alleviate pain. Stim therapy is a versatile and effective treatment modality that offers numerous benefits for pain relief, muscle strengthening, and recovery from various injuries and conditions. Sports medicine professionals and pain management specialists widely use it to improve a patient’s quality of life.

While electrical stimulation therapy can be highly effective for pain management and rehabilitation, it is very important to avoid using electrical stimulation therapy if any of the following pertain to you: cardiac pacemakers or defibrillators, other implanted electrical devices, pregnancy, epilepsy, malignancy, recent fractures, active bleeding tissue, thrombosis or thrombophlebitis, osteomyelitis, tuberculosis, and other infections, poor sensation in the area, conditions like atherosclerosis, impaired cognition, damaged or at-risk skin, and passive metal implants.
